Départ de Sentier (DdS) is a Swiss non-profit association dedicated to advancing LCA-based quantitative sustainability assessment. We support the open-source community by:

- Conducting projects using the state-of-the-art tools and data
- Promoting the exchange of the broader Brightway ecosystem
- Fostering public engagement
- Organizing educational schools and the annual Brightcon conference
The Ecosystem
At the heart of our work is the Brightway open-source ecosystem — a modular framework for life cycle assessment that empowers researchers, analysts, and developers to build transparent, reproducible sustainability models.
DdS supports Brightway by funding development, providing teaching infrastructure, organizing community events, and creating bridges between academic research and practical application. Our goal is a world where rigorous environmental analysis is accessible to everyone, not locked behind proprietary software.

Our core team combines world-leading expertise in LCA methodology, Brightway and open-source sustainability tools, Python development, and data engineering. We bridge academic rigor with practical application to advance transparent, reproducible environmental assessment.

Départ de Sentier is a Swiss non-profit association (VAT CHE-329.638.515) registered in Aargau. Our legal and financial management is fully transparent — bylaws, annual reports, and financial statements are version-controlled and publicly accessible on GitHub.
